    OpenMinds Hosts Annual Dinner Under the Theme "Under The Same Sky"

    As part of its ongoing efforts to support individuals with special needs and empower them to become active contributors to society, OpenMinds held its annual fundraising dinner under the theme "Under The Same Sky" on Wednesday, April 30, at Seaside Pavilion Beirut – New Waterfront. The event was held in the presence of Lebanon’s First Lady, Mrs. Nehmat Aoun, former Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as several current and former ministers and MPs, in addition to prominent social, academic, artistic, and media figures.

    The evening opened with a welcoming speech by media personality Jessica Azar, followed by an emotional panel discussion featuring the founding mothers of OpenMinds. They shared the journey of establishing the organization in 2012 and highlighted its key achievements to date, made possible throughtheir collective efforts. These accomplishments include adapting schools to create inclusive educational environments, providing support for individuals with special needs, and offering family counseling and guidance to parents. The founders also shared their personal stories, illustrating how their own challenging journeys with their children inspired them to create a support system, so that other families wouldn’t have to face the same struggles alone.

    The discussion also shed light on the various programs launched to overcome challenges and promote social integration. Special focus was given to the pivotal role played by AUBMC special kids clinic, led by Dr. Rose-Marie Boustany. Under her leadership, the center has promoted children's cognitive and physical development by providing comprehensive medical care, family support, and specialized educational programs. Dr. Boustany emphasized the importance of advanced scientific research conducted in Lebanon and highlighted the discovery of three new genes associated with autism among the Lebanese population. She also praised the center’s specialized care for thousands of children with special needs, including those with autism spectrum disorders, genetic neurological conditions, premature birth complications, and developmental delays.

    The heartfelt panel discussion concluded with expressions of gratitude to all supporters of OpenMinds, particularly the generous donors who continue to believe in the abilities of individuals with special needs and advocate for their full right to live independently and participate actively in society.

    The evening continued with a captivating musical performance by renowned artist Michel Fadel, filling the venue with an atmosphere of hope and joy. The event also featured a live auction, with proceeds entirely dedicated to supporting OpenMinds. The auction included a distinguished selection of artworks by renowned painters and designers, along with luxurious jewelry and decorative pieces from esteemed institutions.

    OpenMinds reaffirms its unwavering commitment to raising awareness and making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals with special needs. Through its initiatives, the organization strives to ensure their full inclusion in society and empower them to build a bright future that reflects their exceptional talents and limitless creativity.
